Meet the Mission of The Good Portion
Welcome to The Good Portion. My Name is Jenny Crum. I am a follower of Jesus, pastor's wife and mom of three. The mission of The Good Portion, is to lead others to choose, Jesus, the Good Portion, through the encouragement of biblical literacy, and the edification of His Bride, the Church. I am dedicated to providing insightful content that deepens the understanding of the Word and strengthens the faith of my readers. Through engaging narratives and thoughtful reflections, I aim to inspire individuals to seek the abundant life found only in Jesus.
Luke 10: 41-42 says, But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
Join me as we study God's Word together and choose the good portion in our lives!
What is The Good Portion?
In the chaos of this age, families are distracted. Technology, work, sports, extracurricular activities, perfectionism and possessions all fight for attention, but one thing is necessary, Jesus! Like Martha, good things such as volunteering, hospitality, and work can keep us from choosing what is necessary. Throughout my time as a student ministry volunteer, pastor’s wife and researching at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, I have come to see the depth of the Biblical Illiteracy problem in the United States. My heart is to find effective ways to teach Scripture and spiritual disciplines so that my readers understand the importance of staving off distraction in order to stop and sit at Jesus’ feet. Listen to the Holy Spirit speak through God’s Word because HE is the one thing necessary!
Something for everyone
I believe that God created us in His image and learning is achieved in the multitude of ways God gifted our brains to absorb the Truth! So, while the truth, God’s Word, never changes, my posts and study styles are unique.
Much like a “choose your own adventure” book, I aim to give layers of information so that one you can learn in a way that best fits your brain. You may want to research a certain topic so sometimes I'll add academic articles and journals or links to books and current ministries.
Many times, reading Bible studies can become disconnected from real life as you study a time and place foreign to our own. I seek to help the reader see the Bible through a realistic lens, by utilizing creative writing and prose. The people in the Bible were real people with personalities and facial expressions, they dealt with real circumstances, their animals stunk, and family relationships were hard, life was real. I want you as the reader to step into the reality of Scripture so that you can comprehend the beauty of The Good Portion, Jesus. Let's use all the parts of our brains to study God's Word, the cerebral as well as the creative.
Some post are stories or observations that the Holy Spirit revealed to me, others will be Bible studies that provide lessons and questions to help the reader apply the biblical concept to their life. Either way I promise I will always go back to Scripture! Are you ready? Let's choose the Good Portion.
